Canoe / Kayak
You can enjoy our canoes and kayaks in the tranquility of the harbour, protected from the waves, as in Crete the water can sometimes be quite wild. Or if the sea is calm enough, you may venture outside into the open water and explore the beautiful Crete coastline. You can visit some lovely, secluded beaches which are nearby and also see the caves which can only be reached by sea. You must stay within 3km of the Lottie Watersports base and it is not allowed to paddle the canoe or kayak more than 300 metres away from the shore.
The canoes and kayaks are open; your legs are not enclosed within the canoe or kayak; so there is no danger of you experiencing difficulty if you capsize. You simply climb back on again, having no doubt enjoyed a few laughs in the process!
In fact, that raises a question that we are often asked; what is the difference between a canoe and a kayak? According to the International Canoe Confederation, you kneel down in a canoe and use a paddle with only one blade.
Meanwhile in a kayak, you sit down and use a paddle which has a blade on both ends.
We have several types of canoe / kayak but they are all designed to sit down in; and we have double-bladed paddles. So strictly speaking we have kayaks, not canoes! But we find that a lot of people prefer to use the word canoe regardless, which is why we include both terms.
The canoes or kayaks are available for rent by the hour.
Price: Single €10, Double €20, per hour.
